I feel so guilty everytime something in my fridg goes bad.  Why do I think I can eat everything I buy before the experation date? Why do I buy those exotic veggies I never know how to cook?  They sit in my fridg, wilt and then I throw it away.
That money I spent could have feed a family in Africa.  Possibly I will think before I buy.  I will take the money I almost used and give it to a charity.... possibly Heifer International

You're certainly not the only one doing this. So much waste... buying what we want, not always what we need. This makes me think of living in Central America- you went to the market daily to get your food. Not to avoid waste, but because electricity was rare, but the daily shopping made one stick to "need" not "want." I've gotten much better since working with an Ethiopioan, who told first had stories of famine. He made me much more mindful of the value of food.

I know what you mean. I was watching a show on TV about eating healty and the "health" expert said that one of the ways people overcome bad eating habits was to throw away food. I immediately thought, "Oh my gosh! I can't believe she just said that!" There are mixed messages in the media. Eat everything...leave a little on your plate. Eat meat for iron...don't eat meat. Eat organic...organic doesn't really mean healthy. Whole milk...skim milk. Someone shed some light please. I'm afraid of the grocery store.

Same here. A friend of mine who also has the same problem says that he has "the most expensive compost pile in the neighborhood."
