It's still a mentality that those who don't have the means to live with basic necessities must be lazy people. This couldn't be more untrue, yet so many people look upon their neighbor who has less and turn up their noses because they think that must be the reason.
Often times, poverty breeds poverty. It's becomes a cycle that's difficult to break. Many facets, such as lack of education, lack of resources and lack of support further complicate the issues, not to mention government. Did I say government? Heck yeah!
I don't remember a time in my life when things have been more expensive - I mean everything! But minimum wage hasn't increased since our good friend (you know who he is) got in office. So, that's what?...eight years? So minimum wage is still, what?...$5 and some change/hr? Whew! Would you go for that? You would if you had no choice. But I digress...
The necessary tools and resources that people need (and entire communities) are simply not available to all or are difficult to attain by many. I'm talking basic necessities - three meals a day for a family. Not too much to ask yet, it's something that even here in the good ol' U.S. we don't have.
I must say, I'm no expert but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who does and does not have the resources.
As a neighbor I'm choosing and advocating that others choose to do something, at the very least keep that nose from turning up and turn and face poverty straight on and that means being able to look at our neighbor and not turn away. We really have no other right.
